Thank goodness, Spring has finally arrived.
I am a gardener. For the last few weekends, some cold and some heavenly warm, I have been cleaning my garden beds, pulling out leaves and dead stalks, creating space for the perennial spring flowers to flourish, and preparing beds for new plantings. I am surprised at what died over the winter, what survived, and new growth in places that surprised me. For a few weeks, I’m doing my best to enhance my yard for the future of bright flowering plants I enjoy. The bounty of summer is overwhelming. In a blink of my eye, there are more chores to do than I have time to get done.
I like the pace of Spring. It gives me time to reflect and plan what I want in my yard – not only this year, but for years to come.
What does Spring have to do with Estate Planning? Well, just like Spring reveals changes that happened over the winter and offers new opportunities for the future, this is a great time to take a few moments to consider your personal plans. Everyone faces one or more of changes in their health, finances, relationships, and the law. No question the law and health issues were a major change last year. Does your estate plan take these national, regional, and personal changes into account, or do you need to adjust your plan to protect your family, assets and legacy? Think about it and if need be, take action, don’t just wait for another day. If you wait, when will you act before it is too late?
