New Year’s Resolutions are Quickly Forgotten – So Try These

Susan M. Graham, Certified Elder Law Attorney, Senior Edge Legal, Boise, Idaho

In my basement, I have a craft corner and a large mirror with lots of sayings pasted on the glass to remind me of good things.  I want to share a few reminders of the joy of life.  (P.S. I have no idea who wrote any of these.)

  • Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming, “Wow, what a ride!!!”
  • I love the nights I can’t remember with the friends I can’t forget.
  • I want to be an outrageous old woman who never gets called an old lady.  I want to get leaner and meaner, sharp-edged and earth-colored until I fade away from pure joy.
  • Be bold
    Be thankful
    Be quiet
    Be original
    Be spontaneous
    Be punctual
    Be a star
    Be loving
    Be crazy
    Be loud
    Be random
    Be adorable
    Be unique
    Be daring
    Be yourself
  • Friendship is a promise made in the heart, unbreakable by distance, unchangeable by life.
  • A friend gathers your scattered pieces and gives them back to you in the right order.
  • Laugh when you can.  Apologize when you should, and let go of what you can’t change.  Kiss slowly.  Forgive quickly, play hard, take chances, give everything, and have no regrets.  Life is too short to be anything but happy!
